There were a lot of activities all round the SAP Center and the San Jose Sharks celebrated the Indian Heritage Night. It all started at 11AM with UPMA Holi presented by the San Jose Sharks on the Barack Obama Blvd. Before the game started, there was a live band and singers from Voice of Bay Area performing at the South Entrance and a henna artist giving free tattoos at the North Entrance. There was a special meet & greet reception with Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi in the rink side room. Sixteen year old Saavi Ramteke rocked the house with her performance of the National Anthem followed by celebrotorial puck drop by Huma Qureshi. Dancers from Gurus of Dance mesmerized the audience with dance performances on ice during the intermissions. The night ended with attendees on the ice for a group photo with Huma Qureshi.
Sharks fell behind right from the start when less than 2 minutes into the game, Mats Zuccarella got the pass across Mario Ferraro to Jared Spurgeon in the slot for a one timer shot in the net. San Jose continued to power forward.
At 10:19 into the second period, while the Sharks were on a power play, Logan Couture scored on a rebound from Erik Karlsson’s shot. With less than 2 minutes left in the 2nd period, Frederick Gaudreau scored on a rebound and took the lead back from the Wild.
In the opening minute of the 3rd period, Marcus Johansson scored with a deflection in front of the net and extended Minnesota’s lead to 3-1. San Jose did get some life back when Tomas Hertl scored a power play goal on rebound from Logan Couture’s shot. The hope was short lived and just over 2 minutes later Matts Zuccarello hammered in a rebound and extended the Wild lead 4-2. Before the game was over Matt Boldy scored an empty net goal for a final score of 5-2 Wild.
