San Jose Sharks fall 4-1 against New York Islanders extending their home losing streak to 9

San Jose Sharks vs New York Islanders

San Jose took a couple of early penalties. As the Sharks just killed their 2nd penalty of the night, Kevin Labanc got out of the penalty box and skated to the Sharks zone to help out. A rush ensued the other way and Labanc got a pass from Logan Couture in the neutral zone. Labanc stick-handled through 2 defenders and wristed a shot off of the left post giving San Jose a 1-0 lead. Lead lasted less than 10 minutes as Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored a shorthanded goal. Pageau got a partial breakaway but he was able to cut in front of Erik Karlsson, from left right, and put it in the net.

At 2:18 in the 2nd period, Kyle Palmieri scored through the 5-hole with a deflected shot from Scott Mayfield which gave New York their first lead of the night. Just 3 minutes later, at 5:24, Ryan Pulock unloaded a bomb of a slap shot from the blue line that found its way to the Sharks net through some screen in front of Kaapo Kahkonen which gave the Islanders a 3-1 lead.

To make matters worse, just over 5 minutes into the 3rd period, Zach Parise deflected a shot from inside of the left circle to the far side ending all hopes for the Sharks.

Tonight the Sharks led in Faceoffs (39%-61%) and Hits (23-15) while the Islanders led in Shots (33-30), Blocked Shots (19-14), Takeaways (7-6) and Giveaways (4-9).

Three stars of the game:

1: Jean-Gabriel Pageau (1G, 1A)

2: Ilya Sorokin (29 Saves, .967 SV%)

3: Kevin Labanc (1G, 4 Hits)
