Another heartbreaking 4-3 OT loss ended the Sharks winning streak at 3

At 4:29 into the 1st period, an innocent shot by Jack Johnson from the right blue line got deflected off of Henry Thrun’s stick into the net. To make matters worse, just less than 2 minutes later, Evan Rodrigued taped in a rebound from a spinorama shot by Nathan MacKinnon from the right circle.

Kaapo Kahkonen made two huge saves in the opening minutes of the 2nd period to keep the Sharks in the game. At 12:55 into the 2nd period, Kevin Labanc got a pass from Logan Couture in the neural zone. He skated to the center of the left circle and wristed a laser to the far top corner to make it a goal game. Before the 2nd period was over, at 17:54, Nathan MacKinnon took a hard slap shot from the top of the right circle that trickled through Kappo’s 5-hole to make it 3-1 Colorado.

Five minutes into the 3rd period, San Jose got their first power play of the game. Just a minute into the power play, Danil Gushchin made an amazing pass from behind the goal on to the tape of Jacob Peterson in front of the paint and he onetimed a shot to the far side which cut the Colorado lead to just one goal again. At 7:11 of the 3rd period, Noah Gregor’s wraparound attempt generated a rebound which Kevin Labanc picked up. He faced away from the goal, spun around, and wristed a shot to the short side and tied the game at 3.

In overtime, both teams had their chances. Just over 3 minutes into the overtime, San Jose missed to capitalize on a 2 on 0 chance. This was followed by a bad turnover by Erik Karlsson which gave a breakaway to Nathan MacKinnon and he scored for 4-3 OT win for Colorado. This was MacKinnon’s 100th point of the season and Colorado clinched the playoff spot.
