STORY: The waterlogging in India’s northern Gorakhpur city has brought normal life to standstill after heavy rain lashed city over the past three weeks.
The dilapidated drains have choked in the city giving commuters and pedestrians a hard time. At some places, the dirty water has even entered houses at some localities.
Locals were seen wading through waterlogged roads and streets even as public transport remained disrupted.
A local resident of the city, Theresa Butler said the whole day gets lost in throwing the water out from the house and no time is left to do daily chores.
A senior citizen, JP Mukherjee said he has been witnessing the problem of waterlogging for past 30 years and no one raises the issue during the elections.
Reportedly, last week, Indian Meteorological Department had issued high alert warning for 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh state due to incessant rains.
