STORY: Violence erupted in India’s northern Gurdaspur district as an angry mob torched vehicles and liquor vends after two persons were run over by a jeep belonging to a liquor contractor on Tuesday (February 06).
The accident took place around midnight when two persons identified as Sanjiv Kumar and Subegh Singh were travelling on a scooter and were hit from behind by a SUV killing them on the spot.
Furious protesters took to the streets, set two vehicles and threeliquor vends on fire, dealing a lot of damage to the contractor’s property.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Batala, Upinderjit Singh said, a case was registered and a search operation was launched to nab the accused.
Further investigations are underway.
