STORY: Hindu devotees gathered in India’s southern Rameswaram city on Wednesday (August 01) and celebrated a unique sprouts festival to get rid of their sins.
The wee-long festival celebrates Hindu Goddess Mariyamman, an incarnation of Goddess Kali, and devotees pray for better harvest.
Devotees took out a religious procession wherein women carried vessels of sprouts on their heads and then immerse it into the sea. They danced to the beat of drums in revelry.
The festival is celebrated during the auspicious Tamil month of Aadi in August according to Hindu religious calendar.
