STORY: Two policemen were injured in a grenade attack in Indian Kashmir’s Anantnag region, said local media reports on Friday (August 03).
The attack happened after some unidentified miscreants threw a grenade at the security personnel patrolling the region, resulting in injuries to the two policemen.
Security forces have cordoned the region and have begun hunt for the miscreants. The attack comes hours after two militants were killed in an encounter in Sopore region of the volatile province.
In the past few months the state has witnessed a huge spike in militant activities. Unrest has simmered in Kashmir, home to a separatist movement, for decades. An insurgency that erupted in 1989 against India has eased in recent years, but most Kashmiris yearn for independence, accuse security forces of widespread rights abuses and some support the few hundred militants still fighting.
