Marcus Sorensen opened up the scoring for the Sharks today. Brent Burns made a saucer pass from the left circle to Sorensen, who was on the left of the goalie and he put one in on a wide open net.
Just four minutes into the second period, Sorenson ripped one timer shot from the slot on a pass from Barclay Goodrow on the left board which was deflected into the net by Joe Thornton. Seven minutes later with Timo Meier in the sin bin, Nino Niederreiter got a point blank shot on goal which Martin Jones saved. However, Zach Parise tapped in the rebound through the five hole and cut the Sharks lead to just one. With three minutes left, Sorenson made a leading pass to Antti Suomela, giving him a break away. Suomela went top shelf over goalies glove hand with the backhand shot, giving the Sharks a 3-1 lead.
In the opening minutes of the third period, Jared Spurgeon ripped a slapshot from high in the slot through plenty of screen and he beat Martin Jones clean. Once again Sharks lead was cut to one. Another two minutes later, Matt Dumba shot a bullet from top of the right circle that beat Jones on the far side and tied the game at three. The Sharks regained their composure quickly and just six minutes later, Brent Burns released a quick wrister from the whiteboard that bounced off Goodrow and into the Wilds net.
Final Score 4-3 Sharks
Tonight the Sharks led in hits (27-23) and blocked shots (21-15) while the Wild led in shots (26-22), face-offs (65%-35%) and takeaways (5-4). Both teams tied in giveaways at 5.
