Sharks live to fight another day with a 5-2 victory over the Golden Knights

With Sharks’ backs against elimination, there was only one way out for the Sharks tonight and that is with a win. Just over a minute into the game, Erik Karlsson passed the puck to Tomas Hertl in the neutral zone. Hertl cut through couple of Knights and unloaded a bomb from the center of the left circle that beat Marc-Andre Fleury on the far side, top shelf. Ten minutes later, Timo Meier skated the puck all the way down to blue paint and took a shot at goal which Fleury saved. Logan Couture was right behind him and he shoved in the puck under Fluery’s right pad and the put the Sharks on a 2-0 lead which is something the Sharks have not seen since Game 1. Before the period was over, Evander Kane got a high sticking penalty. On the ensuing power play, Reilly Smith shot the puck from behind to goal line to the right of Martin Jones and the puck bounced off Jones’ left leg and into the net.

Twelve minutes into the second period, Justin Braun took a hard shot from the right of the blue line which Barclay Goodrow redirected into the net.

Past halfway through the third period, Erik Karlsson got a tripping penalty on William Karlsson. On the power play, Jonathan Marchessault took a shot from the mid slot through plenty of screen in front of Jones that found the back of the net through his five-hole. Just three minutes later, Joe Thornton passed the puck from top of the right circle to Joe Pavelski low by the goal line. Fleury made the initial save but Tomas Hertl put the rebound in the top shelf far side and put the Sharks on a 4-2 lead. In the last couple of minutes, Captain Joe Pavelski scored an empty net goal, his first goal since his injury.

Tonight the Sharks led in , face-offs (63%-37%), hits (33-22), giveaways (11-6) and takeaways (17-13) while the Golden Knights led in shots (32-29), blocked shots (21-18).
