Half was through the first period, Colton Parayko took a hard shot from high slot that deflected in the glass but the puck landed right next to the post to Martin Jones’ left. Pat Maroon was right there to tap it in and scored a power play goal for the Blues. Just six minutes later, the Sharks also scored a power play goal when Joe Thornton made a tape to tape pass from behind the goal line to Timo Meier on the inside of the left circle. Meier put it in the net through Jake Allen’s five-hole. Before the period was over, Logan Couture made an amazing backhanded pass from the right boards behind the goal line to Meier in front of the crease. Meier switched it from forehand to back hand and slid it past Allen’s left skate.
The Sharks continued to lead 2-1 for most of the second period. With just two seconds left in the second period, while the Sharks were on a penalty kill, Barclay Goodrow blocked a right to left pass attempt by Brayden Schenn. Before Goodrow could get it off his tape, Schenn poked it off of his stick and into the Sharks net and tied the game at 2.
The Sharks took control of the game in the third period and out shot the Blues 15-4 but neither team scored. In overtime, Couture made a perfect pass from the left circle, over a defender’s stick to Meier rushing down the slot. Meier one timed it home giving the Sharks an overtime victory.
