Sharks gift shut out to the fans for the holidays
Both teams played a tight by not giving up many shots on goal or scoring chances. Los Angeles Kings only had one shot on goal for the first half of the period. Both goalies made some great saves and first period ended scoreless.
Intensity picked up in the second period with plenty of hits. Exactly half way through the period, Marcus Sorensen took a pass from Mikkel Boedker and maneuvered through three Kings players and shoved it into an open net giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
Physicality went up another notch in the third period. Twelve minutes into the period, Chris Tierney drew a holding penalty from Kings defenseman, Jake Muzzin. Just seconds into the power play, Brent Burns took a slap shot from the blue line and Captain Joe Pavelski tipped it in the net, extending the Sharks lead to 2-0.
Final score 2-0 Sharks
Tonight the Sharks led in face-offs (55%-45%), shots (31-28) and blocked shots (21-16) while the Kings led in hits (35-22) and giveaways (8-7). Both teams were tied in takeaways at 7.
