Sharks dominated the Senators in a 5-0 win

San Jose Sharks started off the period totally dominating the Ottawa Senators. Senators got their first shot on goal thirteen minutes into the first period. With less then five minutes left in the first period, Logan Couture picked up a pass from Kevin LaBanc behind Ottawa’s defense and beat Craig Anderson five-hole giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead.

The Sharks continued their pressure in the second period forcing the Senators to take a tripping penalty. Just as the power play ended, LaBanc passed to Tim Heed from behind the net and he passed to Marc-Edouard Vlasic on the blue line. Vlasic launched a rocket straight in the net giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead. Just a minute later, Jannik Hansen got a clean breakaway but Anderson came up big with a save. With five minutes left in the second period, a tic-tac-toe play from Joe Thornton behind the net to Joe Pavelski to Melker Karlsson and he top shelved it far side giving the Sharks 3-0 lead.

Third period started off with Senators, Ryan Dzingel forcing Marcus Sorensen into a fight which led to the Sharks fifth power play of the game. Pavelski deflected Couture’s shot into the net for a 4-0 lead. This was Couture’s 400th NHL point. With five minutes left in the third period, Senators, Alexandre Burrows went on a rampage hitting couple of Sharks players and got ejected from the game. The Sharks were on a power play for the remainder of the game. Tomas Hertl scored on a rebound. Final score 5-0 Sharks.

Tonight the Sharks led in face-offs (51%-49%), shots (50-25), giveaways (11-9) and takeaways (19-10) while the Senators led in hits (27-21) and blocked shots (23-17).
