The whole arena erupted in a roar as the Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski stepped on the ice in the starting lineup. Sure there were rumors as to when Pavelski would return in the line up. Even couple of hours before the game, Coach Pete DeBoer had mentioned that he is a game time decision.
Just few minutes into the game, Nathan MacKinnon went awkwardly into the boards. He seemed to have dislocated his right shoulder and he went off into the locker room. Just six minutes into the game, Brent Burns took a hard shot from the right blue line, as he always does, but this time there was Pavelski to tip it town to the ice. The puck bounced over the goalie’s left pad and into the net on the short side. Just six minutes later, there was Pavelski again behind the net. He took a pass from Evander Kane to his right and passed it forward to Tomas Hertl on the inside of the left circle. Hertl fired a one-timer to the far side and into the net. With minutes left into the period, MacKinnon returned to the bench. With just seconds left in the period, Colin Wilson took a shot on goal from the blue line that was deflected into the net by Mikko Rantanen.
Over twelve minutes into the second period, Joonas Donskoi got the puck behind the goalie’s net to goalie’s left. He skated from behind the net to goalie’s right and wristed a shot in the net through his five-hole and extended the Sharks lead to 3-1.
In the first minute of the third period, Alexander Kerfoot took a shot from top of the left circle. Martin Jones made the initial save but the rebound went to his left to Tyson Jost. Jost tapped it in and cut the Sharks lead to just one goal. The Sharks were able to hold onto the lead. The Sharks advance to the Western Conference Finals against the St. Louis Blues.
