Jose Sharks Lose 6-5 against the New York Rangers
Just five minutes into the game, aggressive plays by Brent Burns in the offensive zone lead to a 3 on 1 play for the Rangers. That’s when Kevin Hayes blew one by Aaron Dell and put the Rangers on a 1-0 lead. Just a minute later, a misplay by the Rangers goalie lead to a shot by Brent Burns from the blue line which goalie saved but Barclay Good row tapped in the rebound and tied the game. Past the ten minute mark in the period, Logan Couture buried a shot from the bottom of the left circle on a pass from Kevin Labanc from behind the net that put the Sharks on a 2-1 lead. With two minutes left in the period, Burns went out of position and left Jesper Fast wide open to Dell’s right for a one time shot that tied the game at 2.
Two minutes into the second period, a stretch pass from Marc-Edouard Vlasic to Kevin Labanc who was speeding down the slot, attracted attention of both New York defenders leaving Logan Couture open for a wrister and he buried it to put the Sharks on a 3-2 lead. Past the 11minute mark, defensive breakdown lead to a 2 on 1 for the Rangers. That’s when Kevin Hayes made a perfect pass to Ryan McDonagh for an easy goal that tied the game at 3. Just a minute later McDonagh scored his 2nd goal of the game on a screened shot from the blue line. Before the period was over, the Rangers scored another short-handed goal and extended their lead to 5-3.
With just 9 minutes left in the game, Justin Braun made a [ass to Vlasic on the left. Vlasic took a couple of steps into the left circle and wristed a bullet that beat goalie Ondrej Pavelec clean. With less than 2 minutes left in the game, the Rangers scored another dirty goal with plenty of chaos in front of Dell and extended their lead to 6-4. With less than a minutes left in the game, Tomas Hertl scored on a rebound but that was too little too late. Final score 6-5 Rangers!
Tonight the Sharks led in blocked shots (13-11) and giveaways (10-4) while the Rangers led in shots (29-28), hits (13-9) and takeaways (7-6). Both teams were tied at 50% in face-offs.
