Police’s dogs honoured in Nepal as part of Hindu festival

STORY: Dogs of police canine units were honoured in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, on Wednesday (October 18) for their contribution in catching the criminals.

Their contribution is celebrated every year by the authorities of Central Police Dog Training School (CPDTS) on the second day of the five-day-long Hindu festival ‘Tihar’ or festival of lights.

On the day, also known as Kukur (Dog) Tihar, CPDTS personnel garlanded dogs with flowers and presented medals for their help during investigations.

A tourist, Alice Drake, said she was really moved by watching the dogs getting respect and surprised to see the stunts they performed during the ceremony.

Cows and crows are also worshipped during this festival, which symbolizes a spiritual connection between humans and animals.
