STORY: Police in Indian Kashmir on Monday (August 06) arrested a militant and recovered eight grenades from him.
The militant, identified as Irfan, belonged to terror outfit Ansar Gazwatul Hind and was nabbed in Gandhinagar region of the state.
He was involved in terrorist activities for the past year and was taking the grenades to Delhi, said the Inspector General of Police, S D Singh. He probably was going to use them during the country’s Independence Day celebrations, he added.
India will mark its 71st Independence Day Celebrating next Wednesday (August 15), a day traditionally marked by violent attacks by separatist militants or Maoist rebels, and security forces are on their highest level of alert in many areas.
