India soaked itself in the spirit of patriotism to showcase unity in diversity on the occasion of the nation’s 64th Republic Day on Saturday (January 26).
In eastern Kolkata city, the chief minister of West Bengal state, Mamata Banerjee graced her presence at the parade.
An array of cultural programmes to showcase the rich heritage of the state was greatly appreciated by the audiences.
Meanwhile, patriotic fever also gripped India’s eastern Bihar state, as governor of the state, Devanand Konwar unfurled the tricolour and inspected the Republic Day parade.
Chief Minister of the state, Nitish Kumar, said that the people were dominating the democratic setup in this era, unlike previous times.
“Democracy is strengthening its roots; there is an awakening among people of the nation today. Earlier, the democratic setup would dominate people and now people dominate the democratic setup,” he told reporters in Patna city.
The people were thrilled to see the colourful parade with tableaux of Indian Air Force and other armed forces.
Similar celebrations were witnessed in India’s northern Lucknow city. The Chief minister of the state, Akhilesh Yadav attended the parade, as patriotic spirit swept the nation.
It was on 26th January 1950 that India adopted the constitution after it acquired independence from Britain in 1947.
The people of the country get to witness the military valour and country’s rich cultural heritage during the parade, which took place at Rajpath, in the heart of the national capital.
