STORY: Chief of India’s coastal Goa state, Manohar Parrikar, on Friday (September 01) unveiled FIFA U-17 World Cup host city logo for Panaji, one of the venues of the event.

India has been drawn into Group A of the World Cup along with United States of America (USA), Colombia and Ghana. The hosts will clash swords against the U.S.A. in the inaugural match on October 6, before facing Colombia on October 9 and Ghana on October 11.

State chief, Manohar Parrikar, said that Goa’s love for football has not dipped despite cricket becoming popular in the state.

He added that he would ensure the tournament was a huge success.

Currently, India is ranked at 97 in FIFA.

The world cup is going to start from October 06 and end on October 28.

Twenty-four teams are taking part in the tournament, which India is hosting for the first time.

It is a historic occasion for host as it makes its World Cup debut. The host nation automatically enters the tournament.

India won the nomination by beating bids from 2010 World Cup hosts, South Africa, and Uzbekistan.
