STORY: The Indian women’s hockey team arrived in New Delhi on Monday (November 06) to a rousing welcome after winning the Asia Cup in Japan and qualifying for next year’s World Cup.

Indian women’s hockey team created history on Sunday (November 05) after defeating China 5-4 in a nail-biting final to lift the Women’s Asia Cup after 13 years.

Captain Rani Rampal said the team would look to build on the confidence gained and improve their performance in the upcoming tournaments.

India did not qualify for the last World Cup in the Netherlands and finished ninth in the 2010 edition in Argentina.

Hockey India Chief Executive Officer, Elena Norman, said the team would now be aiming to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

India is currently ranked 10 in the International Hockey Federation world rankings.
