STORY: Indian police busted an international narcotics syndicate and seized 29 kilograms of heroin worth $19 million in New Delhi on Tuesday (April 10).
After a month-long operation, on March 26, a smuggler named Jahangir, who hailed from Indian Kashmir, was arrested in west Delhi followed by arrests of other members of the international syndicate in the subsequent days. The arrested persons were from Afghanistan, Nigeria and India. Reportedly, the drugs used to come from Afghanistan to Kashmir via Pakistan, then brought to New Delhi and from there taken to other parts of the world.
The gang was in business for the past two years.
Drugs use, while still low compared to Europe and North America, is on the rise among newly wealthy party-goers in the top cities of India.
