STORY: Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj had high level delegation talks with her Bulgarian counterpart, Ekaterina Zaharieva, in Bulgaria’s Sofia city on Sunday (February 17).
Swaraj, who was on a two-day visit to the country, made history being the first ever Indian foreign minister visiting Bulgaria. During the meeting, the two leaders discussed bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.
In a post meeting media interaction the Bulgarian leader said that the two nations aim to boost mutual trade and tourism. Whereas Swaraj said that the meeting was successful and the two sides will follow up the decisions taken during the meeting.
Later in the day, Swaraj paid floral tributes at the India’s iconic freedom fighter, Mahatma Gandhi statute located in capital’s South Park.
“Mahatma’s message of non-violence resonates globally. EAM @SushmaSwaraj offered floral tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi Statue in South Park, #Sofia. The statue was sculpted by Ivan Rusev, a prominent Bulgarian sculptor, and was inaugurated in September 2018 by Rashtrapatiji,” said spokesman to the Indian foreign ministry, Raveesh Kumar.
The Indian foreign Minister, who is on a four-day visit to Bulgaria, Morocco and Spain, will make her next stop at Morocco where she will hold talks her counterpart H.E. Nasser Bourita and King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco.
