STORY: A mountaineering team of the Indian Air Force (IAF), which recently completed the gruelling Seven Summit expedition, was honoured at a befitting ceremony presided over by Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa in New Delhi on Thursday (January 11).
The Seven Summit, the highest peaks of the seven continents, is a coveted mountaineering goal. With the successful completion of the expedition by its five-member team, the IAF became the first organisation in India to conquer the Seven Summit.
The IAF expedition team reportedly managed to scale the Mount Vinson in Antarctica, reportedly in a window of just three days of relatively clear weather. The team, led by Group Captain R.C. Tripathi, battled snow storms during the expedition in the southernmost continent and was stranded in tents for 24 hours.
The United States Air Force is the only other organization in the world to have completed the Seven Summit expedition.
