STORY: Indian Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) held its first bilateral working meeting with its Russian counterpart in New Delhi on Thursday (February 07).
Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau, Abhay met with Russian directorate Major General Smurov Kirill and the two discussed effective ways to curb drug abuse and trafficking or narcotic drugs and other pyschotrophic substances.
This meeting between India and Russia will lead us towards controlling the drug problems not just within the countries but also around the world, Russian Directorate Major General, Smurov Kirill, said.
The two officials also agreed to co-operate and to provide assistance and information to help curb trafficking.
Drugs abuse, while still low compared to Europe and North America, is on the rise among newly wealthy party-goers in the top cities of India. According to a report, every day, nearly 7,000 people try illicit intoxicating drugs for the first time in India.
