STORY: Olympic champions Argentina on Monday (December 03) beat New Zealand 3-0 to mark their second consecutive win in the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 being played in in eastern India.
Argentine forward Lucas Villa, who scored the second goal for the world’s second ranked team, said that a combination of aggression and strong defence aided by senior goalie Juan Manuel helped get closer to the quarterfinals.
With win over New Zealand, Argentina shot to the top in the Pool A with six points from two matches. On November 29, Argentina scored another win over Spain in a high scoring match.
Earlier in the day, Spain and France played out a 1-1 draw and were third and fourth respectively in Pool A.
Spanish skipper and goalie Quico Cortes was the hero of the match who saved the first major upset of the tournament by saving a penalty and keeping the hopes alive for his side to reach the knockout stage.
