STORY: Heavy rains lashed India’s western Mumbai city on Thursday (June 07), bringing much-needed respite from the blistering heat.
The city received heavy rainfall, bringing down temperatures by a few notches. The city recorded a minimum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. Residents and tourists were seen rejoicing the pleasant weather as they made their way about the city, with tourist spots like Gateway of India seeing an influx of people arriving at the iconic monument to have a good time.
According to Deputy Director of India Meteorological Department, Western Region, KS Hosaikar, Mumbai and nearby Thane region state will continue to receive heavy rainfall till June 09, with the intensity reducing thereon.
Meanwhile, southern Thiruvananthapuram city also witnessed heavy showers, bringing respite from soaring temperatures
Annual rainfall is essential in India as rains support two-third of the 1.3 billion population living in rural areas who rely on farming. But excessive rainfalls cause problems like floods, landslide and water borne diseases.
