STORY: Heavy rainfall disrupted normal lives in northern hill town Shimla on Tuesday (August 08).
Little traffic was observed on roads as rains made slopes slippery while pedestrians were seen walking with umbrellas to shield themselves from rain.
The incessant rains uprooted trees lining roads and flattened a car, sending panic among the residents in the city. However, no was reported to be injured.
The rainy weather is likely to persist for another five to six days in the state and one or two regions may receive heavy rainfall, the weather department has warned.
Rainfall is important for India as a major section of its 1.2 billion populations is engaged in farming and depends on rains.
But it also causes devastating landslides, floods and water-borne diseases, as civic administrations often fail to cope with challenges posed by it.
