STORY: Egyptian Defence Minister Colonel General Sedki Sobhy paid tribute to Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during World War One at India Gate war memorial in New Delhi on Tuesday (November 14).
Names of nearly 13,000 soldiers are inscribed on the memorial built in 1921. Sobhy laid a wreath at ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ or Flame of the Immortal Soldier.
He was later accorded a tri-services guard of honour at South Block, which houses the Indian Defence Ministry.
Sobhy also held talks with his Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman to boost military cooperation and strengthen strategic ties between the two countries.
Last year, India and Egypt had agreed to step up maritime cooperation following talks between Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
