STORY: Robby Wells, the U.S. Democratic Party’s Presidential candidate for the 2020 elections, indicated on Thursday (October 12) that his administration was unlikely to make any changes in the existing visa policy for foreign workers, if he gets elected.
The United States cannot continue to being a land of opportunity if it stops people from entering the country, Wells said, while replying to a question on H-1B visa programme at an event in India’s eastern Kolkata city.
His statement would bring some relief to Indian skilled workers, who are the biggest beneficiary of the programme, and until few months ago were wondering about their future after Donald Trump had announced reviewing of the policy. It is still under review.
At the event, Wells also spoke of standing with India in its fight against terrorism and urged the South Asian power to stand with America against North Korea over Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons and missile programme.
