STORY: Cricket crazy fans thronged Barsapara Stadium in India’s northeastern Guwahati city on Tuesday (October 10) to cheer for the Men in Blue in the second T20 match against Australia.
Fans hoped India to beat Australia and obtain an assailable lead of 2-0 against the visitors in the three-match series.
Enthusiasm was palpable in and around the stadium as fans wore fancy headgear, painted the tri-colour on their faces and cheered for India.
I hope the weather remains favourable, said a fan, Akash Singh.
India beat Australia by nine wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis method in the rain-truncated first Twenty20 international at eastern Ranchi city last week, to take a 1-0 lead.
The rain came down with Australia struggling on 118 for eight in 18.4 overs after being tied down by India’s spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Fans will not be able to see Australian captain Steve Smith in action as he will return home due to a shoulder injury. Vice-captain David Warner will lead the visitors against Virat Kohli’s men for the tour.
Australia were comprehensively beaten 1-4 in the recently concluded five-match ODI series and are looking to put up a show in the shortest version of the game to gain some momentum for the upcoming home summer.
