The Sharks started the game of strong. Just Eight minutes into the period, Brent Burns got a shot off from the blue line. Colorado goalie Philipp Grubauer made the initial save but Evander Kane was there to tap in the rebound just past the goalie’s right foot.

Fatigue definitely started to set in with the Sharks in the second period. Just over Eight minutes in to the second period, Tyson Barrie took a hard shot from the blue line that Gabriel Landeskog redirected into the net and tied the game at one. Another Eight minutes later Barrie skated into the right circle and buried a shot to the far side and took a 2-1 lead for Colorado.

Half way through the first period, Barrie took another shot from the blue line that Matt Nieto shoved it in the net through Martin Jones’ five-hole. Brenden Dillon hat a stick on as it was crossing the redline but it bounced back off of Jones’ pad in to the net. Just five minutes later, whit the Sharks on their heels, Erik Karlsson made a pass from high in the slot to Brent Burns in the right circle and he shot a rocket that beat Grubauer to the short side. With the Sharks just one goal behind, they took their goalie out of the net in the last couple of minutes of the game. That lead to MacKinnon scoring an empty net goal frustrating Karlsson as he broke his stick over the pipes. With just ten seconds left in the game, Burns scored his second goal of the night from the left circle to the short side but it was too little too late.
