After completing his Ph.D in Physics, Ashok Khosla returned to India in 1971, where Prime Minister Indira Gandhi assigned him to set up the first governmental agency for the environment in a developing country. After five years, he was invited to help the UN set up the UN Environment Program in Nairobi. Subsequently, he came back to India in 1983 to set up Development Alternatives (DA) Group, the premier social enterprise for sustainable development. To scale up the impacts, DA has now established TARALife as a company. DA has been listed as one of the 10 most powerful movements, as per “India Today” magazine and some of the highlights are listed below for your consideration.
