The Sharks got the start they wanted and did not allow an early goal. Just twelve minutes into the game, Joonas Donskoi made an amazing pass from between his legs behind the goal line to Timo Meier in the right circle. Meier scored with a wrister to far side top corner. However, the next three shots by Calgary, all ended up in the Sharks net. About fifteen minutes into the game, Johnny Gaudreau made an amazing pass from behind the goal line to the left of Aaron Dell to Sean Monahan to the right of Dell. Monahan tapped it into the net and tied the game at one. On the very next shift, Calgary won the battle on the left boards which led to a give and go pass between James Neal and Mark Jankowski. Jankowski took the shot from low in the slot that beat Dell on his stick side. Again on the very next shift, Andrew Mangiapane passed from the left circle to Dalton Prout on the inside of the left circle. Prout got a step on Marc-Edouardo Vlasic and he cut in from his forehand to back hand and faked Dell and slid it in the net to Dell’s left. Things just fell apart for San Jose and the period ended with Calgary leading 3-1.

Only goal in the second period came from Calgary. The puck bounced off of Mikael Backlund’s stick who was to the right of Dell. The puck went straight to Joakim Ryan but unfortunately bounced off of Ryan’s stick and into the Sharks’ net extending Calgary lead to 4-1.

Just five minutes into the third period, Tomas Hertl made a pass from the right circle to Timo Meier on the bottom of the left circle. Meier passed it pack across to Logan Couture to the left of the goalie and tapped it in to a wide open net. Just three minutes later, Aaron Dell got trapped behind the net and the puck ended up with Mark Giordano in the left circle. He passed it to Michael Frolik in the slot and beat Dell to his left as he was sliding from left to right. Just over three minutes left, Tim Heed passed to Kevin Labanc on top of the left circle and he shot a wrister.
