STORY: A host of celebrities from Bollywood, politicians and sports personalities on Wednesday (July 11) attended the red carpet of an annual award function held that honours the contributions of Non-resident Indians (NRIs), in India’s showbiz capital of Mumbai.
The fifth edition of the annual awards were given in six different areas– Entrepreneur, Professional, Academics, Arts & Culture, Philanthropy, and Start-up, along with other awards such as India’s Global Icon Award Special Jury Award.
The event which was hosted by Bollywood actress Mandira Bedi and Indian television actor Samir Kocchar, was attended by actress Chitrangada Singh, India’s junior Interior Minister Kiren Rijiju, renowned jewellery designer Poonam Soni and captain of football team, Sunil Chhetri, who was presented with the Global Indian Icon award.
Bedi said the ceremony was a great initiative to acknowledge the achievements of Indians making a name for themselves in overseas nations.
Around 23 winners were selected and awarded across the four regions of the globe including North America, United Kingdom, Middle East and Asia Pacific.
