STORY: Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa on Wednesday (February 07) said the country’s top-selling carmaker will roll out its first electric car in 2020 as it tries to stay in sync with the government’s aim to electrify all new vehicles by 2030.
Ayukawa made the comments after unveiling its brand new Concept Future S at India’s biennial auto show in Greater Noida near the capital, New Delhi.
South Korean carmaker Kia Motors Corp, which displayed its cars in India for the first time at the auto show, is also gearing up to compete with market leader Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor Co in the world’s fifth-largest auto market. Kia will launch its first car, a sport-utility vehicle designed for India, in mid-2019, said its India Head of Marketing and Sales, Manohar Bhatt.
Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar launched German automaker BMW’s 6 Series Gran Turismo Sports Line while India’s Mahindra and Mahindra unveiled their electric concept cars Atom and Udo.
The 14th edition of the Auto Expo- The Motor Show 2018 would be thrown open to public from February 09-14.
