STORY: Over 30 girls were thrashed by a group of people in India’s eastern Supaul district on Saturday (October 06) after they resisted boys who wrote ‘lewd’ remarks on the walls of their school.
The incident took place on Saturday when the girls were playing around their school premises and boys from a neighbouring school came and wrote obscene remarks on the walls. Police said the girls resisted and beat up the boys and chased them away.
The boys went back home and came back with their mothers and other villagers and thrashed the girls.
The girls received external injuries and were taken to a hospital in the district for treatment. A doctor, Prakash Kumar said the condition of the girls was stable.
Local media reported at least 10 people, including a minor, were arrested in connection with the case.
Sex crimes against young girls and women are widespread in India and one of the biggest problems is the length of the trials as sometimes courts can take five to 10 years to reach a judgment.
